PROGRESSIVE DISCIPLINE AND COMMON WORKPLACE
DISCIPLINARY MEASURES (3 DIFFERENT ANSWERS PROVIDED)

Progressive Discipline

Progressive discipline is a corrective workplace approach in which an employer
responds to misconduct through gradually stronger measures, rather than
immediately ending employment whenever an employee breaks a rule.1 It normally
begins with guidance, counselling, informal correction, or a warning, and becomes
more serious only when the employee repeats similar misconduct or fails to
improve.1 This approach recognises that discipline should mainly correct
unacceptable behaviour, explain the standard expected, and give the employee a
reasonable opportunity to restore proper conduct and trust.1
