QUESTION 1

1.1
• Technology Savvy – The learners in Rebotseng Secondary school had been
introduced to tablets, computers, and electronic boards.
• Interested in multimedia – Learners are interested in using multimedia, Mrs Sebotsa
created a WhatsApp group and chose an interesting topic and gave online lessons via
teams, which is interactive media because they interact with one another while a
lesson is electronically presented.
• Emotionally open – The learners were open to meet new people and create study
groups on Facebook to communicate with other learners, where they could share
their fears of COVID-19 as well as advising one another how to protect themselves.
• Constantly seek feedback – Although Mr. Ramono delayed giving the learners
feedback, they took it upon themselves to check one another’s work and shared
digital presentations and videos on some of the lessons.
• Prefer teamwork rather than working alone – They prefer working with other
learners, like the learners who used Facebook to communicate with other learners
and share presentations with one another, and the other learners who had their
parents with them in the lessons.

1.2 Teboho and Pulane was motivated when the teacher helped their parents
understand more about their education by having a Microsoft Teams session that
included them, and trained them as well, in the beginning it must have been really
demotivating for them that their parents did not really want to get involved due to
not understanding what they had to do.

Learners parents were demotivated when the teacher did not inform them about
online classes and homework being uploaded, and then the learners did not
complete some homework.

Learners were demotivated when they could not access the internet to do their work
due to load shedding or the internet being offline due to all South Africans being on
the same network. But learners were motivated by their peers on social media
where they could share their concerns etc. They could help each other by keeping

, one another positive with advising how to protect themselves against the virus as
well as talking about their concerns.

Learners were also demotivated because of the teacher that did not give them
feedback on their performance frequently, but they motivated one another by
checking one another’s work and sharing digital presentations and videos on some of
the lessons to help each other.

The class was also demotivated when their teacher, Mr Romano died due to Covid-
19, they were very sad because they really liked him since he was such a sweet
teacher. Luckily, they have access to social media like the Facebook group and
WhatsApp groups to talk to each other and remember all the good things about their
teacher.

1.3 Both

1.3.1 Teacher Sebotsa is an emotional intelligence teacher. She understood what
the parents of Teboho and Pulane went through and how confused and
concerned they must be to teach their kids the wrong things. She managed
her emotions effectively and did not get upset. Instead, she built a more
satisfying relationship with them by making sure they had what they need to
be productive. She gave them the personal power and understanding of the
lesson and necessity of listening. She helped them understand the lesson by
giving them an interesting and fun online presentation on Microsoft Teams.
This resulted in the learners being happy that their parents participated and
will be more willing to assist them, as well as the parents learning the process
of hearing and how it occurs. It also resulted in both learners to be the first
learners to submit their homework.

1.3.2 Mr Romano was not an emotional intelligent teacher. He made poor
decisions by not informing the parents of his class of the online homework he
was giving learners, which resulted in the parents not supervising and the
learners work not being done. He also let to a poor classroom atmosphere by
leaving the learners in their own hands. The slow tempo of feedback made
the learners stress and resulted in them helping one another and sending
their own videos around to help them stay motivated and share information
needed. He did not do anything to keep the learners motivated and had a
lack of cooperation. Due to this, learners had to form a support group to talk
to one another and express their concerns and help each other by sharing
advice on how to stay safe from the Covid-19 virus
