1. Distinction between Philosophy and Western Philosophy (±300
words)

Philosophy, in its broadest sense, is the rational and critical inquiry into
fundamental questions about reality, knowledge, morality, and meaning.
It is not owned by any single culture; rather, it emerges wherever human
beings reflect systematically on existence and values. Traditions such as
Indian, Chinese, African, Islamic, and Indigenous philosophies all
demonstrate that philosophical reflection is a global human activity
(Wiredu, 1998; Van Norden, 2017). Western philosophy, by contrast,
refers specifically to the intellectual tradition that developed in ancient
Greece and later expanded through Europe and North America,
beginning with thinkers such as Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle. It is
therefore a historically and geographically situated tradition within the
wider field of philosophy.

Failing to distinguish between philosophy and Western philosophy
creates serious conceptual and educational problems. First, it encourages
the mistaken belief that philosophy is exclusively Western in origin,
marginalising other traditions and reinforcing Eurocentrism. Second, it
limits students’ intellectual horizons by presenting Western categories as
universally normative. This may obscure alternative ways of reasoning
about community, personhood, or knowledge found in African or Asian
thought (Masolo, 1994). Third, it undermines critical reflection, because
