1.2 Arnold Gesell’s Biological Theory (4 marks)



Arnold Gesell proposed the Maturation Theory.



This theory states that child development occurs according to a biological
timetable. Development unfolds naturally as the child grows, and genes
largely determine the sequence and timing of development. Gesell believed
that environmental factors have less influence compared to genetic
programming. For example, children learn to sit, crawl, and walk in a
predictable sequence.
