QUESTION 1: CAREER COUNSELLING AND CAREER ASSESSMENT
1.1 Intelligence, aptitude and interest assessment
At Ubuntu Manufacturing, intelligence assessment can help the Industrial
Psychologist understand general reasoning, problem solving and learning potential
that may be relevant when employees consider more demanding roles. Aptitude
assessment can add more specific information about abilities linked to particular
work requirements, while interest measures can show the kinds of activities and
work environments that an employee is likely to find personally meaningful. These
three forms of assessment are therefore most useful when their results are

demands of possible career paths rather than being used as a single promotion
score (Foxcroft and De Kock, 2023). Career assessment research also supports
combining personal characteristics with wider contextual information because career
development is shaped by interaction between the person and the systems around
that person (McMahon, Watson and Patton, 2015). A limitation of intelligence testing
is that one score can give an incomplete picture of future career success because
language, education, cultural experience and assessment conditions can influence
performance, especially in a diverse workforce such as Ubuntu Manufacturing.
1.2 Five Systems Theory Framework characteristics
The Systems Theory Framework views career development through several
connected characteristics that are directly relevant to Ubuntu Manufacturing. First,
the individual system includes personal influences such as ability, interests,
personality, values, age and work experience. Second, the social system includes
family, colleagues, supervisors and other people who influence career decisions.
Third, the environmental and societal system includes labour market conditions,
organisational opportunities, culture, education and wider economic circumstances.
Fourth, these systems interact recursively, which means that changes in one area
can affect other areas and then influence the employee again. Fifth, career
development changes over time and is also affected by chance events, which makes
career choice a continuing process rather than a once off decision (Foxcroft and De
Kock, 2023). This approach fits Ubuntu Manufacturing because its workforce differs
