Anti-Feminism on Submissive Wives TV Show
I recently turned into a show aired on TLC on “Submissive Wives”, which caught my
attention into analysis gender presentation in the show. The show titled “women submitting to
their husbands” interviews three couples both whom claim that the aspect of the woman being
submissive to the husband has been the foundation of their happy marriages. The main character
in the movie is called Tara. She plays the character of being a submissive wife doing everything
possible to impress her husband. Tara believed that it is only through serving, helping,
submitting as well as sleeping with the man that forms of the motto of a submissive wife and the
woman has no choice but to accept the notion. This show is without no double anti-feminism or
perhaps misogynistic, it despise or rather strongly prejudices the position of women in the social
arena. The show is misusing the biblical concept of submission to exploit women in the society.
In as much as the bible says that women should generally be submissive to their husbands, it
should also be taken into account that submission can never be one sided. Every party to it needs
to feel respected rather than being used.
Feminism is defined as doctrine which champions for gender equality. It advocates for
equal socio-economics, political, religion as well as other rights between men and women. The
idea of feminism is based on shared ideologies, social movements as well as political movements
all which are have a common goal of establishing equal opportunities across all sexes. On the
other hand, ant-feminism as well as the misogynistic philosophy totally contradicts the quest for
