Article 1: Romantic Red Revisited: Red Enhances Men's Attraction to Young, but
Not Menopausal Women
Internal Validity
Internal validity is when two variables maintain a relationship to the extent that one is
responsible for the changes of the other. Therefore, there must be a cause and effect in a study in
order for it to be internally valid. This article was consisted of two separate hypotheses: Are men
sexually attracted to younger females since they are in their prime for reproduction? and Does
the color red influence men’s decisions? In this study, the results did not confirm that. At the
end of the study the researchers concluded that more research does need to be conducted in
order to better understand the connections. This study was not created to find the cause and
effect of younger females on a red background. This study does not qualify as internally valid.
External Validity
External validity is how well the findings generalize to other situations and people. In the
article, the result pertains only toward men between the ages of 24 and 54. This study does not
represent more than the group that was observed. These results will not make much of an impact
on the general population. It is safe to say that this study is not considered externally valid.
Construct Validity
Construct validity indicates how well a variable was measured and/or manipulated
throughout the study. This study consisted of a few variables, but only one type of manipulation:
a red background on a picture. Then there were the men chosen to participate. This study
