Behavior Modification Plan
1. Some behaviors that I wish to change are procrastinating, biting my nails, not drinking
enough water, and sleeping too much. Procrastinating too much can affect my work ethic
as well as how I feel about school or work. Modifying this behavior can improve work
ethic and for some it can make them look forward to work. Biting my nails can make the
nails fragile and might cause hangnails. “Nail biting can cause gum disease and bad
breath” (HMH, 2024). Stopping this can help with negative thoughts as well as help nails
get stronger and healthier. Not drinking enough water every day can cause dehydration or
dizziness. Sleeping too much can cause feelings of hunger or possibly heart disease.
Managing sleep better can help with feeling well rested as well as not eating as much.
Which can make people feel better about their intake. “Oversleeping can cause weight
gain and possibly diabetes” (BJC HealthCare 2024). It is important to watch out for
warning signs of disease because a lot of people do not know that biting your nails can
lead to gum disease or that oversleeping could lead to diabetes. Modifying all of these
behaviors could imporve overall health by making the brain work less by giving it more
time to process. It can make the body healthier by showing less interest for food all of the
time which can make the person healthier by less overeating. These are all important
factors that play into every day life because a lot of people do not know the risks of these
issues.
2. From the list above I am going to focus on oversleeping. I will drink a glass of water
before bed, and after I wake up. I will set an alarm for 7-9 hours after I plan to go to sleep
because it is the typical amount of sleep for young adults. “The guidline for sleep for
adults is 7-9 hours” (BJC HealthCare, 2024). Keeping with a schedule will help assure
