The Impacts of Weed on the Brain

The impacts that the drug marijuana has on the brain is very interesting yet not shocking,

since so many people do marijuana, they may think it has no real or lasting effect. If people

knew how marijuana worked on the brain, then maybe they would be more cautious on how they

intake it or they may not take it at all. There are many things’ people may or may not know about

the drug cannabis let alone the affect it has on the brain. Finding out how marijuana’s chemicals

can be alternating the brain severely over the years of use or how it affects the brain for a short

term may be helpful to those who use this plant.



Description of Cannabis

Weed is a plant called cannabis sativa. Marijuana goes by many names such as:

MaryJane, grass etc. This plant is grown all over the world sometimes legally or illegally, some

states have it to where this drug is legal, but you must be at least twenty-one to use. Many

doctors prescribe this drug for elders who are internally ill so that it helps them ease their pain.

Some teenagers are prescribed to take this drug for their anxiety or depression. They do this to

help them relax or to escape from the reality they feel stuck or unsafe in. Marijuana can relieve

stress, relax and slow everything around the person down. Says the National Institute of drug

abuse.



Effects on the Brain

When marijuana is smoked on a regular basis it affects the individuals impulse control,

inhibiting their ability to differentiate right from wrong. It also affects the part of the brain that

holds memory and learning. For example, the neurotransmitter anandamide is also impacted by
