1. Describe a subfield in psychology related to your major or career path.
A subfield in psychology related to the major of exercise science for physical therapy, is
sports and performance psychology. The purpose of this subfield is psychologists helping and
providing insight enhancing the athletes performance and skills, boosting physical skill. This
subfield tends to work with clients who undergo trauma and or are making an attempt to
overcome anxiety or stress. Sports and performance psychology does not just fix trauma or
anxiety and stress but also boosting the client's confidence back up to get back into the groove of
things. (Apa.org, 2014)
2. Answer Describe the role of a psychologist who works in the subfield.
The role of a psychologist working in a subfield is to provide psychological advice,
knowledge, and comprehension to the injury at hand. Development in pain management can be
simplified, if attenuated, with reform in clinical practice. Psychology's role in this subfield is to
provide clinical instruction and wisdom to the injury both physically and mentally. Fear and
anxiety are common factors when coming across an injured patient, psychology helps reduce
those factors as well as any other mental factors that occur when injured. (Eccleston, C. ,2001)
