Directions: Answer the questions below. Each response should be 75-150 words. Include a

minimum of two peer-reviewed or scholarly sources. You must use APA (not MLA) formatted

in-text citations and full references.

1. Describe a subfield in psychology related to your major or career path.

A subfield in psychology related to the major of exercise science for physical therapy, is

sports and performance psychology. The purpose of this subfield is psychologists helping and

providing insight enhancing the athletes performance and skills, boosting physical skill. This

subfield tends to work with clients who undergo trauma and or are making an attempt to

overcome anxiety or stress. Sports and performance psychology does not just fix trauma or

anxiety and stress but also boosting the client's confidence back up to get back into the groove of

things. (Apa.org, 2014)

2. Answer Describe the role of a psychologist who works in the subfield.

The role of a psychologist working in a subfield is to provide psychological advice,

knowledge, and comprehension to the injury at hand. Development in pain management can be

simplified, if attenuated, with reform in clinical practice. Psychology's role in this subfield is to

provide clinical instruction and wisdom to the injury both physically and mentally. Fear and

anxiety are common factors when coming across an injured patient, psychology helps reduce

those factors as well as any other mental factors that occur when injured. (Eccleston, C. ,2001)
