Analyse the information in the class summary. What are your learners’ strengths and weaknesses?
Note: Cover all learners. (max. 100 words)
The entire class seems to be stronger with their reading skills with an average band of 6.7 and writing (average 5.8) and
speaking (average 5.8) are the weakest areas.
My overall analysis of the entire class individually is that, Chen is having difficulty with speaking (5.5), Delphine has the is
the lowest in the class for writing (5.0). Ana and Francesca need to improve their listening skills listening (5.5 and 5.0). All
of the students need to improve by 0.5-1.5 in their bands in order for them to reach their required scores, Mihai and Bilal
both need to improve by (1.5 bands) to reach 7.5.
Which two skills have you chosen to teach in this lesson? Why?
Note: State which part of the exam you will focus on for each skill, e.g., Speaking Part 1. (minimum 150 words)
I have chosen to focus on speaking (Part 2) and writing (Task 2) skills in this lesson as from the classes scores it shows
that these are the two areas the class needs to improve on
For speaking, I will focus on Part 2 (individual long turn), which involves students speaking for 1-2 minutes on a specific
topic. This is where the class struggles with, particularly Chen (5.5) and Bilal (6.0), who need improve their speaking in
order for them to reach required bands. Part 2 of this assignment is where the students will develop good sentence
structure, vocabulary, and speak for a period of time with no repetition.
For writing, I'll include an essay writing task, as it will count for a lot in the IELTS. The class average for writing is only 5.8,

, Delphine’s score is low (5.0) and Mihai needs a 2-band increase to go from 5.5 to 7.5. Task 2 will help students to be able
to organize arguments in a proper sentence structure and use appropriate vocabulary– these are areas where the class
needs more practice.
By combining these two skills with a focus on education, the students will improve their spoken vocabulary and sentence
structures that they are able to apply in both contexts, maximizing the efficiency of our time in class together.
Which lesson topic have you chosen? Why? (minimum 100 words)
The reason I choose the topic education is because it is often used in both IELTS Speaking Part 2 and Writing Task 2
examinations. Students are frequently asked to discuss their educational experiences in Speaking Part 2 and to select
educational issues in Writing Task 2.
Bilal and Mihai want to study abroad, while Delphine and Francesca are interested in increasing their job prospects, which
may require educational credentials. The relevance of education to their needs can increase participation and interest in
the topic. Additionally, education provides opportunities to use a wide range of vocabulary across sub-topics like teaching
methods, technology in learning, and educational systems, which can be applied in both speaking and writing tasks.
Finally, as an academic topic, education encourages the formal register and critical analysis skills needed for the Academic
IELTS exam format.
