Role of the Provider and Scope of Practice

Medical assistants are to be the right hand of the provider; they make appointments for

the patients to see the provider and get information from other clinics, pharmacies, and from the

patient that the provider needs to administer adequate care. The medical assistant is also to set up

the tools required for basic operations (foreskin removal, ear lavashes, removing stitches, etc.)

and, if the provider allows it and it's legal in the state, help with the procedures that can be done

in a medical office. The medical assistant will also treat the client and help the client fill out any

paperwork the provider needs, along with getting the client's vitals before the provider sees the

client. There are college programs that take anywhere from 6 months to a year to complete,

along with a board-certified exam that must be passed to become a medical assistant. A person

also needs to complete an externship where they can demonstrate the skills they learned in class

and apply them to the real world and the job. You will find medical assistance in several medical

offices and the hospital setting.

EMT and EMT paramedics are at the forefront of the medical community, being that they

are one of the people who is a first responder. Their main job is to ensure the patient is stable and

kept alive while transported to a hospital or clinical facility. They are the people who transport

clients from an accident or the person's house to the hospital. If the client is stable enough, the

EMT will start the triage process for the hospital the patient is going to. The EMT will provide

both basic and advanced life support for the patient as they are on the way to the hospital. One

job skill all EMTs must acquire is the ability to recognize, manage, assess, and prioritize all

types of medical emergencies for every situation and be proficient in first aid. The educational

requirements to be an EMT are to have a high school diploma or a GED and to keep up with the

job's physical demands. EMT and EMT paramedics must complete EMT basic training; if the
