Courtship and dating occur across the life span. Do you think dating is something that
belongs to those who are younger than 50, or is dating and courtship acceptable at
later stages of the life span too? Why or why not? What is your opinion about couples
over 50 choosing cohabitation with a life partner rather than marriage?

Hello class and professor,

I think that courtship and dating is reasonable across any age range. I also believe that Western
society is beginning to warm up to the idea of people dating in later stages of life. I, personally,
think that this can help people at later stages in life maintain a connectedness to others and help
combat loneliness that can happen at this age. I think it is reasonable to cohabitate instead of
marrying because of various financial reasons like inheritances, medical issues, and pensions
or social security issues (Olson et al., 2022). I also think that the textbook brings up an
interesting point of cohabiting relationships could be confusing for grandkids (Olson et al.,
2022). I think that this is interesting because children tend to be very understanding or if they
do not understand something they try to find a way to understand it so I think it kind of brings
into the idea of the societal expectation of being at an older age and not dating. In my opinion,
people should do whatever they feel is best and most beneficial to them. And I believe that
people at an older age are best to do that because they have more experience.

Why do you think mix-aged households are becoming more common? How would explain
this phenomenon?

Hello class and professor,

I believe that this can kind of be explained with Erikson's stages of psychosocial development.
Erikson determined that the adolescent stage is focused on a person 'finding themself' and
trying to understand life (Gabriel & Lewis, 2022). He then described the older age as being
content with the life they lived (Gabriel & Lewis, 2022). I think that this can explain a lot
about this phenomenon. When you are at later stages of life, you tend to have more experience
and are at this mindset that what has happened in your life has happened and you can better
choose how to react to new events. Whereas at younger (specifically the adolescent range),
there is so much stress and pressure about the unknown and I think society expects this stage of
life to have a mindset of tackling things and just overall puts a lot of pressure on this age
group. In terms of tasks at different developmental stages, children are responsible for learning,
