This English-Aramaic & Aramaic-English Dictionary is derived from my Aramaic-English Interlinear New Testament.The first two columns are arranged by English words
in alphabetical order with the transliterated Aramaic word attached to the right of the English word or phrase. The second column is the Aramaic word in Ashuri Aramaic
script. The third and fourth columns are arranged by alphabetizing the Aramaic words (reading right to left). The transliterated Aramaic words are also read right to left.
In alphabetizing the Aramaic words, I relied on English word processors which sorted the Aramaic words alphabetically backwards, reading each letter as English.
Since the Aramaic alphabet has a somewhat different order in transliterated English form from the English alphabet, I have rearranged the sections for each Aramaic letter
of the alphabet into the Aramaic order, according to the first letter of each Aramaic word. The arrangement beyond the first letter is off in many instances,
since I would have had to manually sort each of many thousands of words to get the perfect alphabetical order. When I obtain a Hebrew word processor, I will correct
this problem. The present arrangement should suffice for those familiar with the Aramaic alphabet and spelling.
The PDF version is searchable, so that any English or Aramaic word may be entered and found with its companion word or phrase.
I commend this to the reader and student of Aramaic in hope that this new Aramaic dictionary will help to better understand the Aramaic language .
Many Aramaic words have several meanings, as do the words of most languages. There are various English entries for the same Aramaic word in many places,
so while the dictionary has over 34,000 entries for each of its two sections, there is approx. half that number of Aramaic vocabulary words in The Peshitta New Testament,
from which the Aramaic words are taken. The edition is the same used in The 1979 Syriac Bible and in Online Bible's 1905 Syriac Peshitta NT module
(in Hebrew -Aramaic letters).
I am sure there are some errors in these lists. I will republish a corrected edition in the not too distant future, God willing. I dedicate this volume to God, Who, I believe,
has spoken each of these Aramaic words and written them to us through His apostles and prophets by His Holy Spirit.
