presentation Slide 1
My behavioral health issue is Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
Slide 2
PTSD. Why is PTSD is behavioral health disorder in which an individual develops after
experiencing a shocking, scary, or dangerous event. It is not unusual to feel afraid during and
after a traumatic situation. Fear is part of the human response of the fight or flight reaction. This
helps us avoid or respond to potential danger. Each individual may experience a wide range
of emotional reaction after a traumatic event. Most individuals recover from the initial symptoms
over time, those who continue to experience problems may be diagnosed with PTSD. It can
happen to anyone at any time. Six out of every 100 people experience PTSD at some point in
their lives (National institute of Mental health, 2023).

Patient care, scenario chief complaint. My husband is concerned and worried about me as I
cannot sleep when I get spooked. Every time I hear the wind blow, I don't feel hungry and I
have lost weight. History of present illness. Maria's a 47-year-old infectious control specialist at
a local hospital who experienced a traumatic event last spring in which she was home alone at
night when a severe storm hit. The storm produced a massive tornado that destroyed her
home. Her husband rushed home to find Marie extremely shaken and afraid, hiding in the
basement. Lately, Marie is experiencing increased trauma with anxiety at night, Marie states that
she just can't eat as she is not hungry. Her husband states that when the wind blows, her truck
goes by on the road, especially at night, Marie feels a vibration and this causes her to have
increased anxiety attacks, which then she will not sleep.
Slide 4
Social history is negative for drug use, smoking and drinking. Marie goes to church every
Sunday; exercise takes a two mile walk two times a week. Family history, hypertension and
depression, Maternal diabetes and depression from paternal family. No siblings. Past medical
history, Marie was diagnosed with hypertension at age 40. Depression with PTSD eight months
ago. Current medications Losartan and Metoprolol for hypotension and Sertraline for depression.
Slide 5
Treatment plan for Marie to help her gain a sense of control over her life. Psychotherapy will
allow her to recognize the ways of thinking during triggered events. Establishing coping
and relaxation techniques to help when she is experiencing an emotional trigger through trauma-
focus and stress inoculation training (Rosethal & Burchum, 20210). Having Marie establish a
meeting with a nutritionist to help with weight loss and nutrition that will have a positive
effect on health and well-being. Developing a bedtime routine to establish better and restful
night's sleep. Continuing with current medication and establishing non, nonpharmacological
measures will have a positive effect on mental health (Lee &First, 2022).
