Gender Dysphoria

A.) Case
15-year-old assigned male at birth reports feeling
different from other boys. At a young age he enjoyed
playing with dolls, painting his nails, and trying on his
older sisters under garments. He is sexually attracted to
males and prefers to wear dresses and carry the female
role in his relationships. He recently has begun wearing
wigs, makeup, and stuffed bras for the last 8 months. He
shaves his facial hair and has voiced multiple times to his
mother and sister he would like to have breast implants
so he can feel and look more like himself, although his
mother is against/doesn’t support any of his choices to
identify as female. He has a history of depression and
suicidal ideations related to his father leaving. He states
he is struggling with his identity and feels he has no
support with this from family. He has stopped going to
school due to bullying that has occurred and states if he
can’t be who he wants to be then he doesn’t want to be
around.

, Past Medical History:
Depression with suicidal ideations.
Education:
Bullied in grade school for feminine interests.
Family History:
Mother- bipolar disorder
Father: none (left when client was 13 years old due to
coming out as gay and client’s mother not accepting
him)
Sister: MDD

B.) Management Strategies:
Based off this case, good management strategies for this
client would be to incorporate a psychotherapist to help
manage emotions and attend a support group
organization such as the Gender Affirming Program.
