This course explores how family therapists conceptualize families through
particular theoretical lenses. Students will learn how to conceptualize how
families develop problems and how therapists assist families in problem
resolution through various family therapy theories. This course is an application

family.

VI. COURSE REQUIREMENTS:

, Exams: There will be two exams (a mid-term and final exam) in this course,
consisting of a combination of multiple choice and/or essay questions.

Paper: This semester you will need to choose a family therapy model that is not
presented in our textbook, Case Conceptualization in Family Therapy. Using the
Mosley family as your client, you will need to apply your chosen model to the
family. Your paper should have three sections including a Theory of Problem
Formation, Theory of Problem Resolution, and a Case Transcript that implements
the ideas you covered in the first two sections. The paper should be a minimum of
10 pages, with a minimum of 5 reference citations taken from the founder(s) of
the approach that you choose.
