How does additional body weight affect physical status?

Additional body weight has a significant impact on the physical status of an individual.

First, it causes an increased risk of having cardiovascular conditions. Some cardiovascular issues

a person with additional body weight is likely to develop are hypertension, stroke, and heart

disease. Cardiovascular diseases not only lead to the deterioration of physical well-being but are

also fatal. Secondly, having additional weight leads to respiratory issues such as sleep apnea.

Extra weight leads to the reduction of lung capacity to handle breathing, causing complications

in some of the lung functions (Chooi et al., 2019). Thirdly, obesity causes physical mobility

problems and strain on the musculoskeletal. An individual with additional weight may need help

to move around with ease. Fourth, it causes joint stress, such as the knees or shoulders, causing

strain and inflammation when moving around. Additional weight is linked to some types of

cancers, such as esophageal, uterine, kidney, and liver, among other forms of cancers.

What are some barriers and challenges to losing weight in the U.S.?

Weight loss is challenging for many individuals in the U .S. (Grodner, Escott-Stump, &

Dorner, (2023). One of the challenges to losing weight in the U.S. is the need for more time to

attend routine weight loss training. Due to the busy schedule of adults in the U.S., those with

additional weight need more time to commit to regular workouts, hindering weight loss. The

second challenge is underlying medical issues, where some medications can hinder the

effectiveness of specific methods used to facilitate weight loss (Chooi et al., 2019). Another

challenge is the need for physical activity due to the work environment. Most individuals with

additional weight in the U.S. live a sedentary life that involves minimal physical activities,

especially at work. The lack of physical activity makes it harder to lose weight. Stress and poor

mental health are other barriers to weight loss. Poor mental health increases the adoption of
