Introduction

Depression which is a mood disorder and can be in several forms or groups from major
depression to a milder form. However, it is a common problem among adolescents. (Van Meter
& Hubert, 2018) Depression can elevate or lower a person’s mood such as bipolar depression
which are considered metal disorder. According to the CDC, there are significant changes among
children with mental disorder. How children learn, behave and handle their emotions creates a
mood that reflects distress and make it difficult for them to have a normal day (CDC, 2022).
However, this paper will focus more in depth on African American Adolescents and the need to
improve that statistics of those who are treated.

Target Population

The main population focused is Adolescent depression in African American. Mainly African
American adolescents who resides in high-risk communities are the ones who suffer depression
more than adolescents from any other racial and ethnic groups. (Garrison, Jackson, Marsteller,
McKeown, & Andy, 1990) There conditions of living basically lead depression among
adolescents. Many adolescent families live in low-income household and because of this factor
there are high risk of depression. (Roberts, Roberts & Chen 1997, Wu et.al. ,1999) In
addition to that, the recent national estimates in 2010, risk youth behavior survey (YRBS),
that27.7% African American students have felt sad or hopeless. This accords two or more day of
the week. (Center of Disease Control Prevention, 2010) Moreover, around ages 12-17 in 2018-
2019 records indicated the 15.1% of adolescents had episodes of depression, 36,7% expressed
feelings of sadness or hopelessness, and 18.8% have considered committing suicide generally.
(CDC, 2022) These adolescents are not left alone there are several treatments to help them be
normal and function effective in society and should be done early. The major concern is that
many are not treated, and their situations are further worst in which they suffer in society.

Summary of the Article

An effective approach to prevent adolescent depression among African American as a significant
mental health concern that the(RAP) can be implemented. The Resourceful Adolescent program
is school based and was set up to improve psychological resilience, preventing depression in
