• Describe factors that supported the development of the advanced nursing
practice role.
Some factors that helped developed advanced practices in nursing roles are the increased need
for more healthcare providers in the world. APRN's have advanced roles and variations of
functions they can perform to ensure consistency and flow in the healthcare industry. According
to The World Health Organization "predicts there will be a global deficit of 12.9 million
physicians, nurses, and midwives by 2035." (WHO, 2019). Because of this demand the roles of
degree of practice have increased the competency beyond a generalist nurse. There will always
be a need for healthcare. Healthcare will continue to grow as millions gain access to affordable
healthcare they will increase for APRN’s to participate in diagnosing, treating patients and
writing prescriptions. NP positions are one of the top ten fasting growing professions.
• Analyze barriers to advanced nursing practice.
There are several barriers that may impact APRN’s such as scope of practice conflicts, there are
many different educational requirements and degrees that differs from state to state. Some
facilities have different restrictions and limitations that may limit what an APRN is permitted to
do while practicing. The APRN will need to know the scope of practice. There are could also be
some confusion on the APRN role in different settings.
• Examine either the American Association of Colleges of Nursing Essentials or role-
specific competencies related to your advanced practice role. Identify the selected
competencies. Discuss one domain or competency area in which you excel and one
in which you have growth opportunities.
The domain that my nursing career has excelled in has been domain 2 person centered care,
which focuses on the patient, family and anyone involved in the patients care to include spouse
and friends. Allowing the patient to actively participate in their care, they know their bodies and
we as medical professionals know medicine and science. We come together to create the best
treatment plan for their particular needs and wants, which could include holistic and/or their
culture. We as a team help to support their health and life goals. Some arear that could be used
for growth and development my nursing practice is Domain 7: Systems-Based Practice this is
following all the guidelines and regulations this may not always align with the patient’s wants or wishes.
Which in case causes a conflict when trying to provide care and give the patient complete autonomy.
Also draws some lines in doing that is ethically right and ensuring that patient care is accessible to all
diverse ethnicities.
