Theory: “A set of testable ideas designed to explain something observed about
our social world”
Theory have the explanation of something of that been observe
Theory is testable
Structural Functionalist
View: Society is a complex system of parts working together to promote social
solidarity and stability
Macro level theory that does not care about individual
Social solidarity: The degree of a group’s cohesion based on shared values,
beliefs, norms, and interactions.
Anomie: A negative individual state produced by absent or poorly-defined norms
in society
Functions:
Manifest: Visible and intended purposes of social structures
Example: Education System → teaching and creating value to kids,
Latent: Invisible and unintended purpose of social structures
Example: Education System → allow adult to participate in pay labor
market
