Muscular System.
Types of Muscles
Muscular System
The ORGAN system consists of skeletal, smooth, and cardiac muscles. Allows
for the movement of the body, maintains posture, and circulates blood through
the body
The Muscular System
Mechanism of muscles
●Convert chemical energy into kinetic energy
●Can only pull, they cannot push
●Can be striated (striped with bands) or non-striated
Facts about Muscles.
There are over 600 muscles in the body. Individual muscle cells are called
muscle fibers
All are responsible for movement, which can be voluntary (conscience control)
or involuntary (controlled automatically via normal brain function)
Bundles of muscles supplied with blood vessels to supply O2, and nutrients
and remove waste
, Energy for movement comes from ATP (produced through cellular respiration).
Types of Muscles
There are three types of muscles
in the body:
1. Smooth
2. Skeletal
3. Cardiac
Smooth Muscle.
Involuntary muscle found in the lining of
Organs (e.g. stomach, esophagus, uterus, etc.)
● Long tapered lines.
● Cells have one nucleus.
● No striations (not stripped; meshwork appearance.
● Fatigues slowly.
Skeletal Muscle.
