intro
classical conditioning assumes that all behaviours are learned from our
environment, and is learning through association of stimuli - which was first
demonstrated by Ivan Pavlov.
pg 1
Pavlov showed that dogs could be conditioned to salivate at the sound of a bell if
that sound was repeatedly presented at the same time that they were given food.
The dogs were presented with the food, and they salivated. The food was
the unconditioned stimulus (UCS), and salivation was an unconditioned response
(UCR).
AO3 - Pavlov using animals studies (good & bad)
pg 2
Pavlov then sounded the bell (neutral stimulus) before giving the food. After a few
pairings, the dogs salivated when they heard the bell, even when no food was
given. The bell had become the conditioned stimulus (CS), and salivation had
become the conditioned response (CR). The dog has therefore learned to
associate the sound of the bell with the presentation of food.
AO3 - little albert study
pg 3
its possible for conditioned stimuli to become weaker and conditioned stimuli can
gradually lose their association with the original unconditioned stimulus and they
