A. Article C

This reading is about LGBTQ in Italy. At Italy’s national song competition,


two male artists were singing song about love between LGBTQ which won the


competition. It became the entry of Eurovision Song Contest. However, in Italy,


the political history of LGBTQ is procrastinated compare with other Europe


countries. Although LGBTQ rights in Italy have amended after decades of


campaigning, there are persist trials. For example, same-sex marriage is not


legal. They cannot legally adopt partner’s biological child. Italy has remonstrated


with the bill to in contradiction of the right of LGBTQ. Because of the intimate


relationship with Vatican, the bill of make violence against LGBTQ people a


hate crime has been rejected as Vatican think it will harm religious authorities.

Moreover, Vatican has refused the perception that gender identity can be


liquefied, and it has endorsed its disapproval to same-sex marriage. Under the


aggressive environment with religion, the right of LGBTQ is not safeguarded.


However, culturally, increasing number of citizens generally agree that LGBTQ


has be opened in Italy. People do not stress on sexual orientation. From the


example of national song competition, the deep-rooted preconceptions did not

seem to apply that people do not have a large objection. About songs with the

expand the pathways of LGBTQ rights, social acceptance has been increased. It

B. Mackinnon: Masculinity in Movies: What is Masculinity? & Gender and


Queer Theory: The Basic Assumptions.

In Italy, it is a heterosexuality society that mainly emphasis on the right


of man. From Mackinnon, masculinity is principally unhealthy depicted in


movies that preceded on sexism and homophobia which displeasures and


versus gay people. As Italy is still overwhelmingly linked to the Vatican,


which conditions Parliament, the idea of Vatican influences the policymaker.


Vatican agrees that women and men has its difference. If people fight for


equality will harm the traditional family structure such as man is a


breadwinner and women is a homemaker. The bias of Vatican also applies to

homosexuality. They rejected same sex marriage and think homosexuality is


a sin from God. It is similar with the idea in Mackinnon that masculinity is a


problem precisely as it insists on a restrictive and limited heterosexuality at


the expense of women and gay (which can be represent LGBTQ in this


article). Vatican is an idea of masculinity that protect the rights of straight
