I certify that I attended all sessions of Module 8
Notes:
- Part 1 needs to be completed regardless of attending the first session of this module or not
- You may not complete sections of Part 2 for the session that you have missed.
Part 1: Video Games Rating
Based on your understanding of how rating systems work, Design a new video games
rating system, that you think would overcome the shortcomings of the existing systems.
The system can be a hybrid model that borrows concepts from the existing systems.
[1] What are the age categories that you would assign?
The age categories that I would assign would be: 5+, 8+, 12+, 15+ and 18+.
[2] What are the main Content Descriptors that you would like to use? Suggest at least
one extra category other than the four categories of (violence, sex, profanity, and age
restricted activities) that you would like to add.
An extra category other than the four categories of violence, sex, profanity, and age
restricted activities that I would like to add would be graphics. I think that this category
is important as some people do not like seeing gruesome graphics and would like to
avoid games that include very descriptive graphics.
[3] Current Systems have two main outputs: “Age appropriateness” and “Content
Descriptors”. Think of a third output category that could be added. Give an example
A third output category that could be added can be mental health concerns. This can
just include a bunch of possible health concerns that may be caused from the game.
[4] Who will rate your games, i.e. how many raters and what is their qualifications?
Would you offer any training?
In regards to who would rate my games, I would hire raters that are actual video game
players because that would mean that their rating would be extremely accurate not
