Outdoor Play
, 1.0 Introduction
The chosen topic for my research is the benefits of outdoor play to children's social and
emotional skills in my setting. Outdoor play is allowing the children to play outside the hose
confinements where the child gets the chance to explore the natural environment and have
adventures. Outdoor play gives the children more space and freedom to play a game, express
their confidence, and to test their physical limits. According to Reimers et al. (2019), outdoor
play plays a vital role in childhood growth and development and is integral in children's health
and fitness. Outdoor play has also been discovered to make children remain active throughout
days because of the fresh air they breathe and the new contacts they get in the environment.
Children also get to learn new things in the play outside their houses, which stimulate their
brains to increase their senses, such as touching, hearing, feeling, and seeing.
After studying play one of the requirements for child development in one of the
modules, I gained an interest in learning and research on what settings are better or children to
play in. Children's development is a sensitive area where parents, if not cautious, can mess with
child social and physical growth. I feel that children's outdoor play is an interesting field to
research, and many scholars have done a few studies, and that is why I have chosen this topic
for my dissertation. The reasons that have motivated me to carry out this research are to get a
deep understanding of what entails children's outdoor play and their benefits. I strongly believe
that gaining knowledge and understanding the importance of outdoor play on social and
emotional skills will enhance my children care capacities roles as a kindergarten teacher. The
