Doxycycline 100mg BID x7 days

Azithromyacin 1 gram PO in combination with topicals.


What is the presentation of Allergic Conjunctivitis?


-bilateral redness.
-watery discharge.
-May have stringy or rope-like discharge.
-itching (cardinal sign)
-crusty in the morning.
-history of allergy symptoms.

, How do you treat allergic conjunctivitis?


-Cold compresses
-lubricants
-Topical antihistamines, decongestants, NSAIDS and mast cell stabilizers.
--Naphcon-A (Naphazoline + pheniramine) -- antihistamine/decongestant
OTC 1gtt QID PRN up to 8 days.


Zaditor (Ketotifen) - Antihistamine/Mast cell stabilizer - OTC 1 gtt q 8 to
12 hr.


Olopatadine (Patanol) 0.1% or 0.2% solution 1 gtt BID


Ketorolac (Acular) NSAID 1gtt QID


-Systemic Antihistamines.


What is the presentation of Viral Conjunctivitis?


-gritty/burning feeling.
-morning crusting.
-watery to serous discharge during the day.
-unilateral at onset then bilateral within 1-2 days.
-URI symptoms follow (fever, pharyngitis, adenopathy).


What is the common pathogen of viral conjunctivitis?


Adenovirus which is highly contagious.


What is the treatment of viral conjunctivitis?


-antihistamine
-lubricant drops
-cool compresses.
-daytime symptoms improve within 5-7 days, morning crusting can last up
to 2 weeks.
