The cognitive approach links to many health
care settings widely. An example of a
healthcare setting that the cognitive
approach links to is a mental hospital for
children. Cognitive behavioural therapy is
talking therapy that can be used to treat
people that have mental health problems.
The CBT focuses on how people think and
how they feel and mainly how they behave
and interact around people. CBT is aiming to help people to become aware of when
they can make negative interpretations (Simply Psychology, 2019). The main things
that the CBT treat are depression, drugs and alcohol, eating disorders, anger, sleep
problems and sexual and relationship problems. In a mental health hospital, the CBT
can treat all the young people that are having anger issues and the ones that have
gone through traumas. An example of a person that can be treated by CBT is a little
boy that had anger issues since he has gone through a trauma and he decided to
commit suicide due to the depression that he was going through. He was transferred
to the mental health hospital and Piaget believes that even a child like him can be
treated due to the help of CBT. This is because Piaget believed that his therapy can
make all children understand their behaviour and their feelings and they will know
how to control themselves. The CBT can also be beneficial for drug addicts that are
in the mental health hospital. The therapy can show them what drugs do to their
mental health and how aggressive they can become if they do not take it. The way
the CBT treats people that are addicted to drugs and alcohol is by helping them to
dismiss false beliefs and their insecurities that lead them to take drugs and drink a lot
of alcohol. The CBT also teaches them how to use effective communication skills.
Another example of how cognitive behavioural therapy can help children with
depression is by helping them to reduce the negative thought and express their
feelings and understand them. The CBT encourages people to challenge their
negative thoughts and develop more positive ways of thinking and understanding the
world. An example of people that need CBT are individuals with health problems.
They are people that feel a lot of frustration in their daily lives as they have a lack of
understanding what the situation is about (Simply Psychology, 2019).
