The Beauty and the Beast: A man’s Perspective
Barry on his article, Beauty and The Beast, presents a very critical moment which occurs
generally several times in the life of an ordinary man. Barry’s ideology towards an average
woman’s perspective on beauty demonstrates that women are more focused on knowing how the
other people see them rather than how they see themselves. According to his sarcastic
presentation of the article, Barry presents a woman who is being disturbed by the other people’s
opinions on how she looks. As this article will present, Barry’s presentation of the average
woman is realistic to some extent but also provides a traditional view of a woman.
According to this article, the woman takes a lot of time thinking and working on her
beauty and later asks a man his opinion on how she looks. However, the author identities that the
response of the man is never relevant to the woman because whether it is positive commending
her outlook or negative it will be opposed by the woman. At this point, the author provides a
internal conflict in his expression of the woman. It is true that the average woman will from time
to time ask a man what he thinks on her appearance. However, the expression that the woman
will always think the man is not being truthful shows that the woman is already aware that her
appearance is qualified to a certain level.
