Assignment C - Part 2.1
Authentic Text

✔ See the class profile on the assignment instructions page to guide your choice of authentic
text.
✔ An authentic text is one produced for proficient speakers of English – not specifically for
English learners.
✔ If you select a written text, it must be 500-700 words long. If you find a text longer than that,
you can shorten it to fit the word count. If shortened, please ensure that it is still fully
coherent.
✔ If you select a listening audio, it must be 4-5 minutes long. If you find an audio longer than
that, you can shorten it to fit the time limit. If shortened, please ensure that it is still fully
coherent.
✔ In this document, provide a copy of the reading text or a transcript of the listening text you
have chosen.
✔ Ensure the text is properly referenced with a working link (URL) to the original source.

Highlight (or list under the text) 12 vocabulary items (words or phrases) which would be
useful to pre-teach.

Much like his ninja namesake, Naruto the white-lipped peccary was a bit of a loner.

Named after the titular character from a popular manga and anime, Naruto was the youngest
male and one of the least social in his group of 17 peccaries, all of whom were born and raised in
captivity at the Laboratory of Applied Ethology at the State University of Santa Cruz in Ilhéus,
Brazil.

Destined for reintroduction into Brazil’s Estação Veracel Private Natural Heritage Reserve and
the Pau-Brasil Ecological Station, the peccaries were each given a personality test of sorts by lab

I am a science teacher with a TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) certificate, specializing in helping students understand complex scientific concepts in clear, simple, and exam-focused ways. I work extensively with high school students, including ESL learners, and I understand a common problem many students face: they study hard, read the textbook, and still lose marks because they don’t answer questions the way examiners expect. My teaching approach focuses on: Cause-and-effect thinking (what exams actually test) Clear explanations using simple, accessible language Highlighting keywords and structures that earn marks Breaking down confusing topics into logical, step-by-step ideas Rather than rewriting textbooks, I design notes that: Target frequently tested exam concepts Address common student mistakes Show students how to structure answers, not just memorize content My background in science education combined with TEFL training allows me to explain biology concepts in a way that is: Easy to follow for ESL students Precise enough for high-scoring exam answers Efficient for students who want results without information overload These notes are designed to help students study smarter, gain confidence, and improve exam performance, whether they are preparing for unit tests or final exams.
