NSTRUCTOR NOTES
These notes are intended to support your use of Adobe Premiere Pro Classroom in
a Book 2024 Release in the classroom. It‘s up to you how much detail you go into
when teaching any particular subject. These notes are intended to help you decide
how to focus each class, by highlighting potentially complex topics that might
require more time, or topics you can safely invest minimal time in.
Preparing the classroom
To provide the Adobe Premiere Pro (2024) student with the best experience pos-
sible, we recommend that the college lab or classroom provide the following:
• The appropriate hardware and software described in the following sections.
• All software and course materials installed, configured, and tested at least one
day prior to the start of the class.
• A conducive learning environment including projector, whiteboards, and ample
space for the students.
Classroom requirements
• A computer workstation for each student enrolled in the class that meets the
recommended system requirements available at Adobe.com. The machines must
have at least 8GB of RAM installed (16 GB is recommended for HD media,
32 GB is recommended for 4K/UHD media or higher).
• The student workstations should offer headphones for audio monitoring. Stu-
dents can also be offered the opportunity to use their own system (this some-
times speeds up set-up for students as they are already familiar with their own
machine).
• A computer workstation for the instructor that meets the recommended system
requirements for Adobe Premiere Pro (2024) available at Adobe.com. If pos-

, sible, all workstations should have a supported graphics card to provide GPU
acceleration. The instructor workstation should also have amplified speakers.
The teacher‘s station should have internet access to show online resources and
administer updates as needed. The instructor machine must have at least 8 GB of
RAM installed (16 GB is recommended).
• A projector capable of showing a signal of at least 1920 x 1080 resolution is
recommended with a rating of at least 2000 lumens. A screen of at least 6 feet
across should also be available.
• A whiteboard with dry-erase markers in clear view of the students.
• A flip chart with paper and markers should also be available.
• Lighting in the room should be dimmable to improve the readability on-screen.

Classroom media and student machines
Each student enrolled in the class should have a copy of Adobe Premiere Pro Class-
room in a Book 2024 Release. For education customers in the U.S., please contact
your local Pearson representative (www.pearsonhigh- ered.com/educator) or call
800-922-0579. For all International orders, visit http://www.peachpit.com/store/
international.aspx.
Each student will need access to the lesson files provided with the book. Instruc-
tions for accessing the files are provided in the ―Getting Started‖ section of the book.
Student machines should be reset to a refreshed state at the start of each session.
This includes resetting preferences and workspaces, which can be accomplished
simply by holding any modifier key while starting Premiere Pro until the Reset
Options dialog box appears; checking the box for Reset App Preferences; and click-
ing OK.
You should also provide new copies of project files. A backup image of project files
and software installers should be kept readily available to restore student machines
when necessary. If you store a complete set of media assets in a zip file, you can
delete the previously used version and unzip a new copy quickly.
Students may need their own media hard drive. Make sure that the connection and
disk speeds are appropriate for digital video.

, Instructional approach
Your goal as an instructor is to provide a nurturing environment that respects the
past experiences of the students while ensuring that all students can learn and grow.
Students may need positive reinforcement and additional examples to better under-
stand and use the application.
• At the start of each lesson, review the objectives and time suggestions for the
lesson.
• Use the ―Starting the lesson‖ sections as source material for your introduction to
each lesson.
• During each lesson, enhance the course with your relevant, real-world
experiences.
• Ask questions during the lesson to gauge comprehension.
• Try to reference earlier material as you work through the lessons, to reinforce
the principles your students have learned, and give new context to the skills they
have already practiced.
• After each lesson, use the review questions to help students gauge their under-
standing of the material. These questions are a useful way to prepare for an
Adobe certification exam, but they are not questions that appear in an exam.

• Endeavor to use the correct Adobe terminology to describe components of the
software. This will better prepare students for certification and help them to use
the proper language when searching the Web or additional resources.
• Time management is critical so that you can provide balanced coverage of the
lessons. Assess the needs of your students to prioritize the topics they will ben-
efit most from learning.
• Sidebar textboxes, tips and notes should be used for discussion as time allows,
with emphasis on information and core skills that each particular class may
need. It‘s not necessary to cover this additional content, which is included pri-
marily for students engaged in self-study, but you will find much of this addi-
tional information worthwhile to share with the class.

, Web Edition
This book comes with a free Web Edition that can be accessed from any device with
a connection to the Internet.
Instructions for accessing the Web Edition are provided in the ―Getting started‖
section in the book‘s front matter.
Importantly, the web edition includes Chapter 17, ―Managing your projects.‖ This
chapter was moved to the web edition to allow more printed pages to be dedicated
to critical workflows. The chapter is also available as a download along with the les-
son files.

Lesson 1: Touring Adobe Premiere Pro
This first lesson gives your students an opportunity to meet Adobe Premiere Pro
and to familiarize themselves with the most important panels and tools.
When introducing each part of the interface, be sure to explain why and when users
would use them. For example, explain that the trimming tools are for adjusting the
timing of edits already applied to a sequence and that it‘s most common to make
these kinds of adjustments in the later phases of editing.
This lesson represents an excellent opportunity to generate curiosity about features
and interface elements that you‘ll fulfill later.
Key sections of this lesson are:
• Starting the lesson
• Performing nonlinear editing in Premiere Pro
