Hydrometer Method - Answers -Materials needed: hydrometer, boiscous cylinder
-key for first step: hydrometer should read ZERO when placed in deionized water
-measure at two time points: 40 seconds & 2 hours
-organic matter was burnt off soil
-soil was placed in tube with sodium hexametephosphate (separates soil aggregates)
-step 1: soil was mixed in solution to disperse it
-step 2: at 40 seconds, sand is in the bottom of cylinder, therefore the hydrometer is
reading how many particles of silt and clay
-step 3: at 2 hours silt and sand are at the bottom of the cylinder therefore, clay is the
only thing left
-step 4: use subtraction and division to find the percentages of each of the particles
-step 5: then use the textural triangle to determine the soil

Munsell Color Notation - Answers --hue, value, and chroma are given in the book
-if given those traits...be able to give the common name
