Week 8: Course Reflection and Future Application Throughout the discussion occurring in this course, a common element has been application of theory. For this final discussion, identify your future professional practice role. Identify one emerging trend related to your future professional practice area. Discuss a current theory or envision a new theory that can be used to support evidence-based change related to the identified emerging change. Remember to use outside scholarly sources to support your initial response. Dr. H and class, As we have learned throughout these past eight weeks theories are vital to advanced nursing practice. One emerging trend to family nurse practitioner practice is providing care that targets not just the physical symptoms of the patient but also the mental, emotional, environmental, and spiritual needs of the patient. As a future family nurse practitioner, caring is central to nursing practice and providing care to patients through the comprehensive model of caring can be used in nursing practice. According to Zamanzadeh, Jasemi, Valizadeh, Keogh, & Taleghani, (2017) holistic care increases the depth of care providers’ understanding of patients and their needs. Today nurses are integrating holistic approach into their patient care. Having the patient take part in the holistic process of care and having the nurse encourage self-care is another aspect of holistic care which leads to therapeutic consultation, hope, dignity, self-discipline, social growth, a sense of autonomy, vigor, and vitality (Zamanzadeh, et al, 2017). Many different nursing areas have already integrated alternative approaches in their practice today. According to Jasemi, Valizadeh, and Keogh (2017) a comprehensive understanding of holistic care will help to facilitate professional autonomy in a systematic and scientific way. Furthermore, a clear holistic care will provide an application in nursing practice, research, education, and theory development (Jasemi, Valizadeh, and Keogh, 2017).
