Question 1
Explain in your own words how “intelligence” and “information” differ. Please
support your answer with the three sources and practical examples.
Definition (concise):
• Information is raw data, observations or reports collected from sources (witness
statements, CCTV clips, call logs, incident reports). It is not yet validated or
interpreted.
• Intelligence is the product of processing information: it is analysed, evaluated
(validated or corroborated), put into context and turned into an actionable output
used to support decisions or operations (e.g., suspect identification, tasking
patrols, prosecution strategy).
Key differences:
Aspect Information Intelligence
State Raw facts, unprocessed Analysed, contextualised
May be unverified,
Reliability Cross-checked, assessed for credibility
fragmentary
Use Input for investigation Output that informs decisions/actions
Actionability Low until analysed High used to guide response/plans
