Report for both multimedia products

User requirements and purpose

The requirements for both products were: They must be suitable for the aimed age audience; both
products must promote the college course and they must meet certain design criteria.

Both products that I have created meets those criteria’s and requirements, by having a suitable
design that was required by the assignment brief and suitable content that is aimed for the required
age audience. The designs for my interactive product do not contain violent content same as the
linear product that also only contain suitable images, music and other assets. Both products also
contain logos and other information about the Blackburn college course so that it would meet its
main purpose which is promoting the course.

My both products are suitable for the intended purpose, they meet the requirements and both
products passed the testing by several users. I have also made any necessary amendments to both
products by the given feedback from other users and I also took notes for the future products of
how I can improve them and make them better and more user friendly.

Review of the final multimedia products

The interactive product that I have created had to be very simple maze game that is suitable for
children, which at the end I met those requirements. The game has very easy to use navigation and
simple instructions that are easy to follow. All the necessary controls for the game are displayed in
the instructions screen. The designs for the game weren’t the best but it met it intended purpose.
The whole gameplay of the game is not that hard and even though the rules for how to progress in
the game isn’t displayed in the instructions, it is still simple to understand what to do in the game.

The feedback that I have received about the interactive product was that it meets its purpose and
the users who played it didn’t state any issues or improvements that I could have made. The only
issue that one user had was he didn’t like the controls which were:

W-move up

A-move left

S-move down

D-move right

The user found those controls difficult and he couldn’t play the game at his full potential because of
these controls. Me personally I am used to all kinds of controls since I have some experience in
computer games, but for those who doesn’t have any experience of very little it’s hard. The user also
stated that the arrow keys would have been better for controls. I didn’t think of making the controls
into arrow keys because I have always felt like the controls that I have made before was better so
didn’t find any reason to make anything different, but since now I see that some users prefer more
the arrow keys I might take this into notes for future products designing.

At the end you can’t make everyone happy by just having one type of controls, most of the games
out there have features that allow the users to change the controls in the way they like it. Since I am
not that familiar with the software that I used, and I didn’t add a lot of effort in learning more about
it, I didn’t know how to make such feature. I didn’t add effort in learning this software because it is

, outdated and almost nobody uses it for serious game projects, so learning it would have been a
waste of time. The software that I used was “Game Maker” it is more aimed for learning the basics
of game developments, not creating games that you’ll profit from. I felt that the software for
creating the game that I have used, had allot of constraints that didn’t allow me to fully express my
ideas. One of those constraints were that the maximum sprite size must be 32x32.

The linear product that I have created to promote the gaming course of Blackburn college, had to be
short (not longer than 5 minutes), have suitable images and embedded videos of the both levels of
interactive product, which at the end the video met all those requirements.

The feedback that I have received about the linear product that I have made to promote the
Blackburn college gaming course, didn’t contain that much criticism. Mostly the users stated only
few popping out issues that were ether with the text that is displayed or with the speed of certain
parts of the video. One of those issues were few spelling mistakes that I have made, and some users
showed me them and soon after I fixed those issues. The other bigger mistake in my video was
having a slow embedded gameplay video of my interactive product. That embedded video was long,
so I had to increase the speed because it gets boring to look at it after about 30 seconds.

The constraints that I have faced during the development of the video was that the software that I
have used had few issues that really made a difference in my work flow. The software didn’t work
properly, so I had to redo my work few times which caused me to waste some time. There was an
older version of the same software that I used but it didn’t allow me to upload my gameplay video
for unknown reason. Otherwise the software tools and layout were easy to use. I did not have any
use in that, because I got a hang of it in just few minutes and built my video quickly.

Evaluating my multimedia products

Improvements

For my interactive product I feel like I could have made it way better. I regret choosing a vector art
style for my designs, because of such a small size of sprites. If I would ever you this kind of software
again or a similar one that demands such small sprites, I will use pixel art instead. If I would have
used pixel art instead it would have looked ten times better. In example of how it could have looked
