development of blood cells and lymphatic system
Structures in hematopoietic system
o Bone marrow: manufactures blood cells
o Lymphatic system: maturation of lymphocytes (specific
types of WBC’s)
o Blood: transport substances, regulation of body
temperature, pH and fluid balance, and transport cells and
hemoglobin

Bone marrow: soft gelatinous tissue - fills spaces in
interior of long and spongy bones
Types of marrow:
o Red marrow: manufactures different types of blood cells
and hemoglobin
o Yellow marrow: fat and connective tissue; manufactures
blood cells under intense stimulation
o Contains two types of pluripotential stem cells - called the
mother of cells
Myeloid stem cells differentiate into types of blood cells
Lymphoid stem cells differentiate into lymphocytes
