Categories of Targeting - ANSW-Deliberate Targeting- planned targets (scheduled or on-call) known to
exist in the operational environment with engagement actions against them.


Scheduled Targets- prosecuted at a specific time


On-Call- actions planned but with no time. Expects to locate these targets in sufficient time to execute
planned actions.
Dynamic targeting - ANSW-Is normally employed in current operations planning because the nature and
timeframe associated with the current operations (24 HRS) typically requires more immediate
responsiveness than is achieved with deliberate targeting.


Unscheduled Targets- are known targets and are included on either the JTL or RTL but were not
nominated, were nominated but did not make the JIPTL, or were not expected to be available for
engagement within the TGTing cycle.

, Unanticipated Targets- are unknown or not expected to be present in the operational environment. Not
included on the JTl/RTL, and an evaluation of the candidate target is needed to determine engagement
requirements and timing.
Unintended Effects - ANSW-Spill over to create unintended consequences which may be
counterproductive or may cause opportunities.
Indirect Effects - ANSW-Are the delayed and/or displaced second-third-and higher order consequences
of action created through intermediate events or mechanisms.
Cascading Effects - ANSW-can ripple through a target system often influencing other systems. Typically
occurs through nodes and links.
Cumulative Effects - ANSW-tend to compound to the result of greater outcome.
Direct Effects - ANSW-Are immediate and easily recognizable. First order consequences of a military
action. Unaltered.
