A. Communicable Disease
Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus, also known as COVID 19, was an
unprecedented event. While it seems like a lifetime ago, the COVID 19 pandemic began only
four and a half short years ago, and it continues to be an ongoing issue today. Originally
discovered in the Wubei Province of Wuhan in China on December 12, 2019, the virus promptly
developed into a worldwide pandemic, claiming the lives of millions.

B. Description of a regional outbreak
Initially linked to Huanan Seafood Wholesale Market in Wuhan, numerous cases of
pneumonia, of somewhat of an unknown origin, were being reported. (CDC). On January 7th,
2020, the novel coronavirus, COVID-19, was recognized to be the cause of the pneumonia.
Corona Virus (COVID 19) quickly made its way over to the United States, with the first positive
case reported from a sample in Washington State (Region J) on January 20, 2020.

CDC. The first reported case of COVID 19 in Region B was on March 4, 2020 at Hackensack
University Medical Center in Hackensack New Jersey. The patient in question was from Fort Lee
