Reproduction is part of the life cycle of all organisms. Main purpose is to continue the
existence of species through the combination of gametes. Humans, sexual reproduction
takes place with 2 people one male and one female.

Puberty
Between the ages 10-14 people reach a phase called puberty which is when a child’s
body is prepared to reach maturity. Its starts when the pituitary gland starts to secrete
certain hormones. They hormones stimulate the immature sexual organs
What happens during this phase?
1. The hypophysis (pituitary gland) at the bottom of the brain releases hormones into
bloodstream
2. Hormones activate the testes in boys and ovaries in girls to secrete sexual hormones
3. Testosterone is the male sexual hormone and oestrogen is the female sexual hormone
4. Hormones brings secondary sexual properties to the fore
Changes in girls
® Increase in height
® Hips becomes wider and rounded
® Menstruation starts
® Breasts enlarge
® Uterus enlarges
® Hair grows under arms and around genitals

® More muscular
® Shoulder broadens
® Voice breaks
