whether the visuals in the story, The Man Who Never Lied, are likely or unlikely to
appeal to children below the age of six based on the colours used and style of the
visuals. You must also discuss how the visuals convey the story
The visuals in frame seven of The Man Who Never Lied are likely to appeal to children under
the age of six because of the bright and bold colours used, as well as the cartoon-like, simple
drawing style. According to the study guide, young children are naturally drawn to visuals
that include “bright colours and bold lines” as these help make books and reading more
interesting (Unit 3, Section 1.2). In this frame, the king’s colourful kente robe, the horse’s
elaborate design, and the warm orange background work together to grab and hold a young
viewer’s attention. The characters also have exaggerated facial features and expressive
eyes, which help convey emotions and actions clearly something children can understand
even before they learn to read fluently. The study guide highlights that visuals play an
