move files without facing any bugs during
transactions.

Diagnostic Assessment
Initial observations:
The system information shows details about the hardware
and software data, this data does not change before and
after formatting, because it provides the physical properties
of the drive such as the USB model and its connection type.
Hence the list stays the same, but the content gets erased.

Diagnostic tools used: • Disk utility
• System information
Identified issue(s): The USB drive was filled with unrequired storage preventing
me from adding new data. Therefore, erasing the ones that
are not necessary will leave some space for potential data.
Actions Taken

,Description of the repair:
I formatted the USB drive by going to the file system and
application to navigate where it is stored, then to utilities and
disk utilities, where you will find the USB's name, erasing all
the data.

Duration of the job (minutes): 15 min
Testing or monitoring actions: • To initially monitor the USB drive before formatting, I
went on 'Finder', select Applications and clicked on
Disk Utility.
• This had System Information which helps you monitor
the hardware and software contents of the USB.
• Overall, I went on Disk Utility to check if the drive was
mounted.

Results and observations:
• While the drive was formatting, the storage in the
disc utility did not change, as it must be mounted,
making the drive's files accessible.
• Once the USB was formatted, there were no other
files left in the drive, and it was all vanished to
prepare for a new storage.

Optimisations Performed
Description of the optimisation:
Formatting removes all unnecessary files from the USB drive
to reset the file system. It creates new data storage to
improve its performance further and keep the files organised
when the drive is mounted. This will process the issue out
quicker or to expand its storage. I have also used the first aid
tool after the formatting to easily identify the problems and
to detect errors and ensure the file format was encrypted, as
it adds an extra layer of security for the sensitive data to be
stored in the USB drive. Overall, it initiates a connection of
read and write data as it needed to be mounted for the
system to recognise and use it.

Results and observations:
The USB successfully deleted all the old files to free up space.
Since the storage is free it is ready to save new files to
manage it more efficiently with optimisation for the storage
and with read/write speeds to improve its performance and
organise them neatly.

Safe working practices • I made sure the computer, and the USB ports are
working in good position to check if they have any
damaged cords.

, • Double checked the USB before formatting for any
potential viruses or cyber-attacks.
• I maintained my workspace to be clean and tidy to
ensure the USB drive does not get misplaced or lost
by not handling it properly.


Steps taken




These were all the unrequired files saved on my USB, and I want to free up space by formatting
them. Formatting will allow you to leave more space in the system to save the needed ones.




To proceed further into formatting, I went to applications and selected utilities that provide different
system tools. Inside the utility folder, I selected disk utility, where I could find the storage of the USB
drive that helps manage format devices.
