QUESTION 1 Lethabo, a 15-year-old grade 10 learner from Tshilidzi primary school in Venda. Her class teacher has been complaining about her disruptive behaviour in a class. She is also disrespectful and fails to do her schoolwork. Whenever educators reprimand her, she insults them and tells them how her boyfriend Maanda (a well-known gangster leader in the area), will deal with them in a blink of an eye. After several failed efforts of reprimanding her by the school authority as well as circuit officials, her matter was referred to the district level of the department of basic education. Her mother was called in and a decision was taken to get her referred to a social worker. You are a social worker in this case and the matter was referred right on time because you were busy recruiting members of a group that you are about to compose. , QUESTION 1
1.1. Mention the recruitment process used in the above scenario. Support your answer.

The recruitment process used in the above scenario is referral.

Motivation:
The case study specifically states that Lethabo's case "was referred to the district level of the
department of basic education" and afterwards a "decision was made to get her referred to a
social worker." That is, Lethabo was referred to the circle of a social worker by an external
authority (school and department of education authorities) rather
than voluntarily approaching or being introduced through a public notice.
This immediate referral of a specified individual to the services of the social worker is
characteristic of a referral recruitment method.

1.2. In your estimation, what approach would be suitable for orienting Tshilidzi and her fellow
members? Justify your answer.

My estimation is that the most suitable approach to orient Tshilidzi and her fellow members
would be an integration of individual and group orientation.

Motivation:

Individual Orientation: Given Tshilidzi's history of disruptive and disrespectful behavior, and her
association with a gang leader, individual orientation is imperative. This session one-to-
one would allow the social worker to build rapport, assess in private Tshilidzi's readiness
and motivation levels, explore any current fears or reluctance she might have for attending the
group, and explore the purpose of the group within a safe and confidential setting. It
provides the opportunity to become familiar with her and her individual needs without
the added stress of her peers.
Group Orientation: Following individual orientations, a group orientation would
be helpful. It would allow all members of the group to get to know each other and the social
worker, start establishing some general group norms, cover the broad goals and requirements of
the group, and begin creating a feeling of common purpose and belonging. It helps
to make expectations clear for all at once and starts to create the integrated development of the
group. Two-
pronged approach allows for individual issues to be handled and prepares the way for effective
group functioning.
1.3. Explain the process that you would adopt in contracting with your members.

Contracting with group members is a process consisting of a series of steps to deliver clarity,
commitment, and mutual understanding. I would do the following:

Preparation and Presentation of Purpose: I would begin by presenting the purpose of the
