QUESTION1
ACTIVITY 1.2
2: Similarities and Differences Between Conceptual and Procedural Knowledge in
Technology Education**
* **Conceptual Knowledge:** Understanding the "what" and "why" of a technology. It involves
facts, principles, theories, categories, and relationships.
* **Procedural Knowledge:** Knowing "how" to do something with a technology. It's the ability
to execute a sequence of actions or steps to achieve a desired outcome.
**Similarities:**
* **Both are essential for effective technological practice:** You need to understand the
underlying principles (conceptual) to apply the procedures intelligently, and you need
procedural skills to put your conceptual knowledge into action.
* **Both contribute to problem-solving:** They work together to enable students to analyze
problems, devise solutions, and implement them successfully.
* **Both are developed through experience and instruction:** Learning activities should
incorporate both the theory and the practical application. Students learn concepts through
explanations, demonstrations, and reading, and procedures through practice, experimentation,
and feedback.
* **Both can be assessed:** Educators can use different methods to evaluate both
conceptual (e.g., tests, essays, explanations) and procedural (e.g., performance tasks,
demonstrations, projects) knowledge.
* **Both are necessary for innovation:** True innovation requires an understanding of what
exists and why, combined with the ability to experiment and create new procedures.
**Differences:**
| Feature | Conceptual Knowledge | Procedural Knowledge |
