.Nucleic acids aren't just the realm of biological chemistry. Experiments by a
Swiss scientist, Albert Eschenmoser, on nucleic acids in the 20th century yielded
an interesting result: threose nucleic acid, or TNA. TNA is a synthetic (man-
made) nucleic acid that acts just like natural nucleic acids, but resists enzymes
that normally would break down nucleic acids.
