Introduction
We are all aware of how important food is to our day-to-day lives; it is necessary to
survive. But what would happen if you had a negative relationship with food? An abnormal or
disordered eating habit is a defining feature of eating disorders, which are categorized as mental
health illnesses. People who suffer from eating disorders become fixated on the foods they eat,
how much weight they gain, and how they seem. Nowadays, there are several million persons
suffering from eating disorders; these individuals are typically female and range in age from
twelve to thirty-five (Poliyy & Herman, 2020). Three separate types of eating disorders are
identified by Comer & Comer (2021, p. 287); these include anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa,
and binge eating disorder.
What is a eating disorder
The aims of this essay are to discuss the relationship between eating disorders and one or
more models of abnormality, discuss the social and/or cultural consequences of eating disorders,
and provide a detailed account of each of the three categories of eating disorders. Anorexia,
bulimia, and binge eating disorder are all examples of eating disorders (Comer & Comer, 2021,
pg. 287). Many factors, including genetic, environmental, psychological, and physiological ones,
have a direct correlation with eating disorders (Polivy & Herman, 2002). A thorough description
of eating disorders is the central concept of this essay. The fact that this page explains the causes
of eating disorders and how they manifest in various people lends credibility to the main
argument.
