Interview and Interdisciplinary Issue Identification
Interview Summary
The interview with Dr. John Doe, Chief Medical Officer at Riverview Health Center, a
mid-sized hospital, underlined significant problems in the teamwork and collaboration of health
care providers. As Chief Medical Officer, he is the lead for driving the clinical operation and
improvement of quality at the organization. According to Dr. Doe, the most especially
fragmented team working during the shift change-over time creates gaps due to inconsistent
collaboration in being promptly informed regarding the state of the patient. The problems persist
despite the implementation of EHR and collaborative training programs. While the hospital
advocates for teamwork, the ideas regarding inconsistent participation of departments in
interdisciplinary meetings, unclear roles, and lack of accountability are consistent nightmares.
This weak teamwork reduces the quality and further undermines communication and
coordination that should be available for good patient care.
Identifying the Issue
One of the major concerned issues outlined is a lack of proper teamwork among health
care providers at Riverview Health Center. This comes through poor coordination through
handoffs, inconsistency in utilizing team-based EHR features, and interdisciplinary meetings
being poorly structured. Poor collaboration between departments and poor collaboration among
professions tend to result in adverse patient safety and outcomes, which are evidence-based
findings (Rawlinson et al., 2021). This is an interdisciplinary issue that requires the participation
of clinical and administrative teams together with IT. A broad approach ensures that the
technological redundancy fits the needs and priorities of all departments clinically, while
collaboration becomes workable and hence effective in such an environment.
