Staff Update: Protecting Security, Privacy, and Confidentiality of Patient Data
As we continue to provide compassionate care to our patients, it is essential that we remain
cautious in safeguarding the security, privacy, and confidentiality of the sensitive health
information entrusted to us. Recently a staff member was fired after posting on snapchat a video
of a patient singing a Christmas carol, without consent (American Nurses Association, 2024).
This update serves as a reminder of the critical role each of us plays in maintaining privacy
standards, with a focus on the risks posed by social media usage in our work with hospice
patients.
