For AS Psychology Paper 1 on Introductory Topics in Psychology, focus on the following key areas to revise effectively: 1. Social Influence  Conformity: Understand key studies (e.g., Asch’s conformity experiments) and the types of conformity (e.g., compliance, identification, internalization). Focus on factors that influence conformity, such as group size, unanimity, and confidence.  Obedience: Review Milgram’s study on obedience, the factors that influence obedience (e.g., authority, proximity, and legitimacy), and the ethical issues surrounding such research.  Group Behaviour: Study topics like social roles (e.g., Zimbardo’s Stanford Prison Experiment), social loafing, and bystander behaviour. Understand the factors influencing helping behaviour and the bystander effect. 2. Memory  Models of Memory: Be familiar with the multi-store model of memory (Atkinson and Shiffrin) and the working memory model (Baddeley and Hitch). Understand the components and processes involved in each model (e.g., sensory register, short-term memory, long-term memory).  Encoding, Storage, and Retrieval: Focus on how information is encoded (e.g., semantic, acoustic), stored, and retrieved. Review research on the duration and capacity of different types of memory. 3. Attachment  Stages of Attachment: Understand Bowlby’s attachment theory, the concept of monotropic attachment, and the stages of attachment (e.g., pre-attachment, indiscriminate, discriminate, multiple).  Strange Situation: Study Ainsworth’s Strange Situation and the types of attachment styles (secure, insecure-avoidant, and insecure-resistant). Understand the factors influencing attachment, including temperament and caregiver responsiveness. 4. Approaches in Psychology  The Behaviourist Approach: Understand classical conditioning (Pavlov) and operant conditioning (Skinner), and how these theories apply to learning and behaviour modification.  The Cognitive Approach: Review cognitive models of memory, perception, and problem-solving. Study the information-processing model and the role of schemas.  The Biological Approach: Focus on the role of genetics, neurotransmitters, and brain structures in influencing behaviour.
