3. Prescribing drugs, medicaments or work authorizations
4. Taking impressions other than for study models, diagnostic casts or athletic appliances.
5. Final inspection and approval of restorative and other treatment which affects occlusion and
any necessary occlusal adjustments.
6. performing pulp capping, pulpotomy and other endo procedures.
, 7. placement and intraoral adjustments of fixed and removable prosthetic appliances
8. administration of local anesthesia, parenteral or inhalational sedation or general anesthesia.
Direct Supervision
Dentist remaining in the facility while the treatment is performed by the EFDA
Professional Education
Candidates for certification as EFDA shall show compliance with section 3 (d.1) of the act by
submitting verification of one of the following:
1. Graduation from an expanded function dental assisting program at a 2 yr college OR other
insitution accredited or provisionally accredited by the accrediting agency approved by the
united states department of education council on postsecondary accredition which offers an
associates degree.
2. Graduate from a dental hygiene school which required the successful completion of at least
75 hours of clinical and didactic instruction in restorative functions accreditated or provisionally
accreddited by the commisions on accreditations of the american dental association.
3. Completion of a certificate program in expanded functions dental assisting of at least 200
hours of clinical and didactic instructions from a dental assisting program accredited by CODA
Examination
Failure to register or to sit for the examination shall be deemed a failure of the examination.
upon notice from the board of the failure, the temporary permit holder shall immediately cease
to practice as an expanded functions dental assistant and shall return the temporary permit to
the board.
