Introduction
Strategic planning is a fundamental managerial process that enables organisations
to define their long-term direction and allocate resources in a way that ensures
competitiveness and sustainability. In today’s global business environment,
organisations operate in highly dynamic and technologically driven markets that
require continuous innovation, effective leadership and strategic decision-making.
Strategic planning allows organisations to analyse both their internal capabilities and
external environment so that they can formulate strategies that ensure long-term
success and growth (Dess, Lumpkin & Eisner, 2019).
The telecommunications industry is one of the most rapidly evolving industries in the
world due to technological advancements, increasing digitalisation and changing
customer expectations. Telecommunications companies must constantly invest in
new technologies, improve network infrastructure and develop innovative services in
order to remain competitive. One of the major telecommunications companies
operating in Africa is Vodacom Group Limited. Vodacom provides mobile
communication, financial services, broadband connectivity and digital solutions
across several African markets including South Africa, Tanzania, Egypt, Mozambique
and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Vodacom’s strategic direction is guided by its vision to become the leading
technology-communications company in Africa. The company aims to expand its
digital services, strengthen its telecommunications infrastructure and improve
financial inclusion through mobile financial services. Vodacom’s integrated reports
provide detailed information regarding its financial performance, sustainability
initiatives and long-term strategic goals.
